Food Service Positions

What?

Working a food service position at a rafting company isn′t like working at a fast food restaurant! There are several different jobs that come under this heading - Lunch crew, Dinner Crew, and Snack Bar Worker. The Lunch Crew is responsible for making the lunches (sub sandwiches) here on-site for the rafting trip, and then taking them aboard our river boat - the Cumberland Star. You cruise up and down the river on the river boat, chatting with customers on the way up, and serving lunch on the way back. Dinner Crew is very similar, except that the food is a hot menu, and things are a bit more formal on the boat during the cruise. Lunches are on a daily basis, while Dinner cruises are infrequently scheduled. We hire Lunch crew specifically, the Dinner Crew is usually made up for staff who have cross-trained for that position. Snack Bar workers work our snack bar on-site. We need both cooks (involves working with grills and fryers) and front station workers (take orders, prepare drinks, etc).

Who?

Lunch Crew need to be at least 18, while snack bar workers can be as young as 16 (for front station workers) or 18 (for cooks). Dinner Crew must be at least 16. Lunch crew need to be able to drive the catering van out to the Cumberland Star, so a good driving record is needed. We are looking for people who are honest, have a good sense of cleanliness, and who can work without a lot of supervision.

Training

It takes about 2 days, sometimes 3, to train to be a Lunch person. The first day we show you how everything works, and the 2nd day you show us that you can do it on your own. Some people, particularly those who have never worked a food service position before may take an extra day to learn everything. Snack bar worker training usually takes significantly less time. Cross-training between various food service positions is highly encouraged, and can help provide a little more variety for you.

Appearance Code

Food service workers must wear closed-toed shoes, shirts that cover their stomach and armpits. Hair must either be worn up, in a hair net, or under a hat.
