Introduction to Kayaking - This class is designed to make you eat, drink and sleep kayaking. It begins on Friday at 8:00 pm with snacks and class orientation. Saturday morning equipment is issued during breakfast, then the class heads to the lake. The lake session is designed to give students a chance to learn and practice basic skills (such as wet-exits, basic paddle strokes and braces) and gain familiarity with these maneuverable and tippy craft. Saturday night is spent discussing students' strengths, weaknesses and goals, along with a introduction to river hydrodynamics in preparation for Sunday's river trip. After an early breakfast on Sunday, the class heads to the river. Class I and II rapids offer excellent opportunities for learning river maneuvers such as eddy turns, peel-outs and ferries. The class will head back to the Outfitters for a final wrap-up before finishing in time for students to head home early Sunday evening.
