Internship Opportunities

We offer paid internships to students in the outdoor recreation/hospitality fields. We would also be open to talking to students from other fields, such as marketing, graphic design, and landscape design.

We provide:

Learning Opportunities: Interns get hands-on experience in commercial outdoor recreation. We will customize your internship to meet the needs of your school's program. Please see out main employment page for desciptions of the various positions that we have available. Most interns will train in more than 1 area for their internship. A popular combination for many interns is reservationist/raft guide.

Housing: We have primitive housing available on-site. These are platforms on which you can erect a tent and/or tarp system. They are situated in the woods, facing east, so you get the morning sun and afternoon shade. There are shower and bathroom facilities on-site. There is a washer and dryer also on-site that we all share. There is no charge for the housing, but there are a limited number of platforms, so make sure that you sign up for one when you are hired.

Food (limited): You get a free meal while working (world-famous Smurff-burgers, aka sub sandwiches). They are make-your-own or made to order, depending on your position. There are 3 different kinds of meat, 2 different cheeses, pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, and various sauces, chips and cookies for dessert. These are so good at the beginning of the season, and you will be so sick of them by the end of the season! You will, however, find yourself craving them several months after the end of rafting season.

Free trips: There is no charge to go on any of the trips that we offer (except for the chartered dinner cruises), AND you can take 1 person with you, also free of charge. There are certain provisions, such as there must be space available on the trip, and you can′t be working (or scheduled to work!) at the time. This means Saturdays are usually out, since there is rarely room on our trips, and in any case, you will be working.

Instruction: Community First Aid/CPR and River Rescue classes are offered free of charge to our employees. These classes are required for some positions, but any employee is welcome to take advantage of this offer.

You provide:

Commitment: Our minimum period of employment is from mid-May through mid-August. We are open from mid-March through the end of October, and preference is given to interns that can stay through Labor Day weekend. You will be working every weekend.

Enthusiam: We are looking for interns that are enthusiatic about the outdoors and enjoy working with people.

A Sense of Adventure: We run trips rain or shine, heat or cold, high water or low. We make sure that our customers have a good time in all kinds of weather!
